All You Need To Know When Buying Replacement Hot Tub Filters

When do Filters on Hot Tubs Need Replacing?

There’s no exact timescale for changing your hot tub filter, it really does depend on how often you use your hot tub but it is definitely recommended to change it every 2-5 years. It’s normally easy to tell if your filter needs replacing by the colour, water flow, high differential pressure and the overall condition of your filter.

  • Check if your filter is a grey, green or maybe yellow in colour after cleaning
  • The hot tub water is not staying clean
  • The filter gets blocked much quicker, meaning you have to clean it more often
  • There’s restricted water flow and/or high differential pressure (high differential pressure is the difference between the pressure coming in and going out)
  • A cracked or damaged cartridge – which is rare and usually an initial plumbing error
  • The filter element starts to come apart or shred

We also advise changing the filter before you use the hot tub if purchased second hand from someone else, whether the filter is clean or not.

How to Replace Your Filter:

Replacing your hot tub filter is much easier than cleaning it as you’re essentially just removing it, as you would when cleaning, and replacing it with a clean, fresh one. The key thing when replacing your filter is to make sure you’ve got the correct dimensions – usually measured in diameter. It is measured from the outside edge of one end cap to the other outside edge of another. There is often a make and model number on the filter so you know you’re ordering the correct size but if there’s not or you cannot locate it – the measurement method is the best way. It is always best to have a hot tub filter spare to avoid any downtime if your filter breaks.
We also have a filter finder on our website to make sure you order the correct filter for your hot tub.
